How to Pack for a Golf Vacation

Going on a vacation can be so exciting that it's easy to forget important things that you need to bring with you, especially if you leave packing until the last minute! It's easy to forget things in the heat of the moment...

But forgetting something can however spoil your vacation, or can cause you to incur extra costs, if you perhaps need to buy something extra while away from home. Additionally, if you're not well organized you may find yourself carrying around more stuff than you actually need!

The first thing to do before going on vacation is to create a checklist. This will help you minimize the chance of forgetting important items. Of course, you only want to put important items on the checklist - stuff that you really need and intend to take with you - otherwise it's not really a checklist, more like a rough guide!

Some of the items that you will want to put on your checklist probably include:
  • Keys - Easily misplaced or forgotten, make sure you know which keys you are taking and where you will store them while travelling.

  • Wallet - A surprisingly large number of people forget to take their wallets, and ending up going back for it!

  • Travel Documents - Passports, tickets, visa (if applicable), driving license (if applicable), etc. You should place these in a easy-to-remember and easy-to-access place. Do it as soon as as possible, not at the last minute. A zip-lock pocket on your travel bag is ideal.

  • Prescribed Medications - If you are on any prescribed medication take these with you, especially since they may be hard to replace when travelling. You should try to take a bit more than needed, in case your return is delayed, or you accidentally drop a pill into the sink, etc.

  • Pain-relief and sticking plasters, etc. - If you are staying in a resort or hotel, you may be able to get these if needed from the front-desk, but if taking a road-trip, or if you need them when travelling, having aspirin or sticking plaster inm your bag can be handy.

  • Snacks - Taking your own snacks can save time and money when on a road-trip, or if they are not provided free by the airline.

  • Drink Dispenser - Important while travelling, and to stay hydrated when playing golf.

  • Electronics - Your cellphone, digital camera, etc. Don't forget to take some spare batteries and/or the necessary rechargers!

  • Golf Equipment - Obviously if you are going on a golf vacation, you won't want to forget your balls, gloves, shoes, and clubs! Taking your own equipment is generally much cheaper than renting or buying at the resort, plus has the advantage that you can use gear that you are already familiar with.
Once you know what to take, the other side of packing is getting organized for the trip. You should ideally aim to take just two bags - one for your golf gear, and one for everything else (or three bags, if you count 1 piece of hand luggage for the plane). By having only a few bags, instead of several small bags, you are less likely to lose one during the trip.

As far as your suitcase is concerned, you ideally want one with compartments. However, if your suitcase doesn't have compartments, you can use small bags (one for medications, one for rechargers, etc.) and place these within your suitcase. You can save space in your suitcase by rolling clothes, and, more importantly, by only taking clothes that you are actually going to wear!

In summary, the secret to packing for a golf vacation, or any vacation for that matter, is being organized. If you plan ahead, and pack things in advance rather than at the last moment, you will have less stress, less hassle, and a more enjoyable vacation!
