Developing Your Style of Playing Golf

Golf is an individual game, everybody has a different body, and different sets of muscles, so no two people will swing their golf clubs in the same way. As a result this means that you will not achieving your optimum game by simply copying Tiger Woods or another golf professional. Instead, if you want to play your best possible golf game, you need to develop your own unique style of playing golf, and working on improving your game, not somebody else's!

Of course, it is crucial that you master the basics, and try to optimize them whatever the details of your style. These basics, which apply to all golfers are:
  1. Good balance. Remember good balance is the foundation for all golf shots - regardless of the precise shot or club that you are using.

  2. Keep your eye on the ball during the entireity of your swing.

  3. Learn to keep your head still during your swing. Keeping your head still will help you to maintain good balance, and to keep your eye on the ball.
Once you have mastered the basics, does that mean you can go completely on your own way? The answer is yes and no.

As your game progress you can still continue to learn from others, you just don't want to slavishly copy them. Instead you should work on improving golf in your own unique style.

For example, a professional golf instructor should be able to help you overcome that faults in your game, and make the necessary connections to your technique. However, ideally you should look for an instructor who will help you to improve your swing, rather than trying to get you to adopt a completely different swing.

Likewise, when playing golf, you shouldn't try to completely change your swinging method, after every bad game or shot!

To summarize then, learn the basics, such as good balance and keeping your head still, build them into your game, but also develop your own unique style of play. Don't try and imitate others, but learn to play the best game that you can in your own way - you will not only get better results, but you will have more fun that way too!
